Tuesday, January 28, 2003 test Stephen Hello. If you are here right now reading this particular message, you just can't get enough can you? I am considering turning webbpage.org into a lot of different things. It may end up being a blog site where I can ramble about whatever. It may end up being a portal to all of my fantasy sports leagues and boards on FanHome. It might even end up being trash like it was for the past couple of months. Who knows? More than likely I will get bored with this and that will be the end of webbpage.org, because will my boards on FanHome, fantasy sports websites, and other hobbies, I really don't have time for the blog thing, but at the same time, I feel the need to just type it all out. :) Stephen Friday, May 10, 2002 Nerds, Paint, and Sweat Nerds: I think that Anji and I have all but decided to be on of those really nerdy people who see Star Wars at 12:01 a.m. the day it opens. After the move this weekend and getting things organized in the coming week, we are probably going to want to do something very simple and easy like going to watch what appears to be a kick ass movie. Of course, it will break my streak of not going to the movies, but COME ON - It's Episode II. The last movie I watched in the theatre was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. That's right, I didn't see any of the Oscar hype movies INCLUDING Lord of the Rings. However, if I have time at all, I might catch a warm-up of Spider-Man and then do the Star Wars geek update. I will keep you posted. Paint: Wow. We have a dark blue office. We have a medium blue bedroom. We are very soon to have a post-it-note yellow dining room. Color is a fantastic thing. Sweat: This weekend is going to be HELL. I am NOT looking foward to the move, but on the other hand, I cannot wait to have it done. I *hope* that by this time next week, everything will be situated. CROSS YOUR FINGERS.
Stephen DOH! Stephen Thursday, May 9, 2002 Don't Call It A Comeback, I Was Never Gone Hello everyone. This is an update. It has been such a long time since I actually posted one, I just wanted to make sure everyone knows what these new words that appear on the site are. I have been sick. Not "Cough, cough. I gotta cold sick." Not "Awww man, my stomach hurts because something had dairy sick." But, "I missed two + weeks of work difficult getting out of bed sick." We still don't know exactly what is was. There has been two blood tests and despite some immflamation in my liver, nothing serious showed up. My doctor is out of town, so getting a doctors note was a task. OY! One thing that being home sick for two weeks does though is provide you with time to think. I have thought a lot about who I am, how people perceive who I am, and most importantly who I want to be. I won't go into that because it is a work in progress. ------------------------------ We are moving this weekend. The new apartment is fantastic. I promise that pictures will be up as soon as possible. We did some painting in each of the two bedrooms. The office/den bedroom is a deep blue color and the bedroom bedroom is a lighter blue color. They are very calming. Also, our dining room is going to be a bronze-red color. YAY FOR TRADING SPACES. Okay, that was an update...I need to go and get ready for work now. Stephen Friday, April 12, 2002 eViL PiKaChU 420: dave? dave dave dave daaaave! *is having an entire conversation with the word dave* Stephen Clouded. My head feels clouded. In fact it feels like a bobblehead doll. Three nights in a row I have had disturbing dreams. They have all 3 been different, though equally disturbing. It really starts your day off on a somber note. I wonder if I am eating something that I shouldn't be? hmmmm... In order to take the new apartment we are going to have to adjust the way we spend money. The first real test of that comes this weekend. The Angels are playing the A's. Anyone who knows me knows that the A's are one of my favorite baseball teams. I would go to all 3 of them, but I am having to cut that down. It looks like I am going to get to see Barry Zito pitch at the very least. I suppose I could get the cheap seats. We will see. Tonight, Jess sees DMB. Do you think she is excited?
eViL PiKaChU 420: DAVE I have been listening to Vanessa Carlton (thanks Bry!) and Michelle Branch an awful lot lately. Hmmm.... Gary Sheffield hurt his shin last night, I hope he isn't hurt too badly. Does anyone know if you can paint those cheap-o Ikea style book BILLY book shelf units, or are you going to run into a formica problem? I have two black ones and would really like to do a Trading Spaces (thanks Bry!) on them before we move.
eViL PiKaChU 420: :D:D:D
Nah...she's not excited in the least.... Stephen Thursday, April 11, 2002 Hello. So about the apartment. Briefly...I have to get ready soon.
2 Bedroom, 2 Full Bath It should be really a great move for us. We can have an office/den area like we have always wanted AND a dining room. It just means that I am going to have to cook more often, which shouldn't be a problem if we actually have a nice place to eat the meal :) The move will probably happen sometime in about a month or so. Now...the city that we have been living in for nearly 4 years now is Van Nuys. It is sort of an infamous city. It is the "porn capital of the U.S." The upside is that we have lived on the nicer side of Van Nuys. Well, officially, the name of the city has been changed. We are now Lake Balboa. For anyone who may be familiar with my fantasy baseball teams, this is fantastic information :) I don't think it changes anything really, though I supsect eventually property value may go up. That is why I am getting this nicer apartment NOW. Lock it down at a cheaper price. Anyway, here is an article that I found interesting for the Los Angeles Daily News: Will Lake Balboa Name Hold Water? There will be more tomorrow because I am vowing to blog more often. I plan to give a weekend horizon update. In the meantime I leave you with the results of this Sex and the City quiz I took. :)
You scored 40% Charlotte
Stephen Wednesday, April 10, 2002 Okay. Will try and blog a bit more often. A couple of quick points: 1) our apartment still isn't completely repaired. The carpet still needs to be removed. However it won't be because... 2) we are moving in to a new two bedroom apartment in the building. Details on that later. 3) the section of Van Nuys that we live in has officially been changed to lake balboa. A lot of people in the area are opposed to it. I kinda like it...better sounding name as far as I am concerned. 4) baseball! 5) here are some kitty picks to keep everyone appeased.

Stephen and
Anji A couple of friends have asked me “Why baseball?” Why do I love baseball so much? Read on… I was reading Kyle's site today and there was a recent passage that included the quote, "There are sports, and there are religions, baby." Ahh, that is a wonderfully prolific, if not a tad bit testerone lined, statement that pretty much sums up my feelings on baseball.
Basketball = Sport B A S E B A L L = Way of Life. It is such a bizarre thing. I can certainly understand why people would not be into baseball. At least I think I can. For me, it is so perfect on many levels. The crack of the bat, the smell of hotdogs, and above all else, that feeling that you get when you walk through a tunnel of a baseball stadium for the first time, emerge from the outer walkways and look onto the field for the first time. Remembering all that has happened on that field. Things that up until that exact moment were nothing more than stories or fables about heros from another day. Now, they are real. Personified. For the next three hours, I get the sense that I am a part of history. For me, it is magical experience that remains equally as enjoyable every single time I do it. It is odd. When I was a kid, I collected baseball cards. Not your average, "Get these cardboard things away from my bubblegum!" way of collecting, but I was meticulous with my organization. I also memorized stats. The first cards I truly remember doing this with is the 1987 Topps series. So that would make me about 8 years old. Do you remember these cards?
![]() I would organize and reorganize them. First by card number. Then by team. Then alphabetically. I would also study the stats, memorize them. Back then, I had two favorite teams. The Braves – who were horrible at the time – and Oakland, who were basically in a similar situation as what they are in right now. A young team, just coming into their own. I would eat, breathe and sleep – baseball. I was probably 12 or 13 before I got to go to my first game. Money was tight growing up. Don’t get me wrong, I never went hungry, and was never denied anything I truly needed. Often times I would even get things that I wanted. Going to baseball games was never really an option though. Both of my parents worked, and worked VERY hard to get what we had. It is one of the things that admire most about my parents. With their schedules, baseball games just didn’t fit into the schedule. To this day, I have never been to a baseball game with my dad, which is something that is going to change in September when I go home. It is a dream of mine to be able to go hang out at Turner Field with my old man, ya know? Anyway, I cannot adequately put into words the feeling I got. Going to old Atlanta Fulton County Stadium, walking to my seats and then there it was. A field that I seen hundreds if not thousands of times on television, larger than life and right before my eyes. Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth’s record right down there. That is where Sid Bream slid to win the pennant last year. Right over there is where Dale Murphy played for nearly 10 years. I felt complete. In that one surreal moment, my 13 year old dreams had come true. I lost sight of baseball when I was in high school. I never stopped loving the game, and I certainly watched the Braves a lot, but with theatre, and all the different things I involved myself in, I never really got to study it the way I always had. That remained the same until last season. Anji and I went to quite a few games. Hell, if you get the cheap seats at Dodger Stadium, it is actually cheaper to go to a ball game than a movie. We probably went to 25-30 Angels and Dodgers and Padres games last year, and it awakened something inside of me. It reminded me of all those feelings. No matter how many times I go to Dodgers stadium, I still get that flutter inside when I walk in and see the green grass and the boys taking batting practice. To think that Sandy Koufax pitched right out there, 50 feet away, takes me back to that feeling of organizing my 87 Topps baseball cards. For the time that I am sitting in that baseball stadium, all is right in the world.
So, there is the answer, in a nutshell, to Why baseball? Stephen |
